People are loving what ReScot are doing

At ReScot we work hard to ensure that we offer our customers work that’s done to the very highest standard and at a price that makes getting your sofa recovered good value for money. Here’s an example of some of the comments we get from our customers:

“We could not be more delighted with the work carried out recently by ReScot Unholstery on our two tub chairs, which have been transformed from rather sad, cracked leather chairs into beautiful fabric-covered seating. George and his team were friendly, efficient and helpful with everything – we were amazed to find that the whole job was sorted in less than a fortnight – brilliant! The workmanship on the chairs is of the highest standard and we now have back in use some of our favourite seating. I cannot recommend ReScot too highly and we will definitely seek their services again whenever we next need anything reupholstered.”

find-us-on-facebookWe love nothing more than seeing the reaction our customers have when they see their favourite old sofa completely revamped and in as good condition as it was when it was new. When we strip a sofa down we make sure that the frame is as solid as it was when it left the factory and most good quality brands like Natuzzi and Duresta really made their furniture properly. It’s such a shame that she many end up in a skip when the frames are still stronger, and the foams better quality than most you’ll buy these days brand new.

If you have a good quality sofa that fits your room we can completely transform it for a lot less than the price of a quality replacement and you’ll get years and years of use from it. Why not see what people are saying about our service on Facebook?

Change a Bonded Leather Sofa to a Fabric Sofa

What is Bonded Leather?

Many of the ‘affordable’ leather sofas in High Street furniture stores are not quite what they appear to be. When a real leather sofa is made, the upholsterer takes the cow hide and cuts it into the required shape. As you can imagine there are lots of off-cuts and small pieces of waste leather. All of this is gathered up and ground together by machine into a form of slimy, leathery mulch. This is then glued together with a special polyurethane glue and flattened out into a long sheet. When dry we have ‘bonded leather’.

bonded-leather-sofaBonded leather only needs to have 20% leather content but often has a lot more and it can look quite convincing, even smelling quite authentic when new. It can look great too, especially when brand new. The problem usually arises a couple years down the line when cracks start to appear and the plastic coating starts to flake off. Then it can look awful.

The shop you bought it from will say it’s fair wear and tear so you have no comeback. The only crumb of comfort may be that the sofa might not have been hugely expensive in the first place but as this can happen after a very short time it’s a real waste of money.

If you look at the red sofa on this page you’ll see that it was almost in new condition. The arms showed hardly any signs of use at all, the frame was still strong and the cushions were hardly worn. We recovered it in fabric for the customer but it was a real waste for that to happen so soon.

We would suggest when buying new that if you can’t stretch your budget to real leather try picking a fabric sofa instead of a bonded leather one. A bonded leather sofa might seem like a great deal at the time but you may well regret it down the road.
